Waiting List

Waiting List Times

Our Scout Group is very popular, and has a sizeable waiting list. If you’re interested in joining us, please make sure you join the waiting list as soon as possible. Our approximate availability for new members is as follows:

Section Next estimated available space
Squirrels (4-6 years) Spring 2027
Beavers (6-8 years) Autumn 2028
Cubs (8-10.5 years) Spring 2026
Scouts (10.5-14 years) Please contact us for availability

Waiting list policy

We prioritise our available places in our sections based on the following criteria. In the event of any disputes over place allocation, our Group Scout Leader has final say. Please note, we also typically only offer a space to a young person if they’re able to join a section for two terms, to allow enough time to form friendships and earn some activity badges. When a young person cannot complete two full terms due to reaching the maximum age of the section, they will instead be considered to join the next section in the group slightly early.

  1. Young people already in our Scout group – once someone has started their journey in Scouting, we think it’s important that they be able to see it through. Young people moving from one section to another, such as Squirrels into Beavers, are our first priority when allocating spaces in a section. Consequently we won’t offer out additional spaces in a section until our existing members have had their space allocated
  2. Children of our adult volunteers – Scouts is a volunteer run organisation, and we rely on people giving their time to help run our sections. If you’re willing to give your time as a section assistant then your young person will get priority to join Scouting with you. Volunteers must have completed their DBS check and training prior to an offer being made to their child
  3. Young people already in another Scout group – similarly to #1, a young persons Scouting journey shouldn’t end just because they need to move to a different Scout group
  4. Siblings of our existing members – we understand that watching their sibling enjoy Scouting may get a new young person interested in joining us too. We may give some preference to a sibling of an existing member (who has been invested into our movement). Please note that siblings must be registered on our waiting list first, and will not automatically be given the next available space in any section.
  5. Age & date of joining waiting list – when allocating spaces, the initial priority is given based on length of time on the waiting list. However, we may on occasion choose to prioritise someone who has been on the waiting list a shorter amount of time due to their age to allow more people to join the group.
