Our Squirrel Drey

Tuesday evenings – 5.30pm – 6.30pm, term time only

The Squirrels Scout Section is for young people aged between 4 and 6 years old. We offer a range of fun and exciting activities to help young people create new friendships and develop new skills.

Squirrel Scouts take part in many activities to help them develop skills for life – whether thats being active by playing games together and learning about the importance of our health, exploring outdoors on a trip through the woods to learn about local plants and animals, or learning about science by making slime and doing exciting experiments.

As well as earning their activity badges, we learn about our local community, and look at different festivals and why they are celebrated. Squirrel Scouts are also challenged to step outside their comfort zone and try something they might not normally be interested in to earn their challenge awards, before finally earning their Chief Scouts Acorn Award and getting ready to move on to their next set of adventures in Beaver Scouts.

You can find out more about Squirrel Scouts on the Scout website.

Getting Involved

If you’re new to the scouting movement and want to join our Squirrels Drey, please get in touch and join our waiting list – we’d love to have you! Once we have a space in the Drey for you, you’ll be invited to come along and try it out. If you like it and decide to stay (and we hope you do) you’ll be invited to make the Squirrel Scout Promise, and be invested into our movement.

Uniform

Once you’ve been invested as a Squirrel, you’ll need to look the part! Our Squirrels uniform is a red sweatshirt (which you can purchase through us) and a necker (which we provide when you’re invested). You’ll also need some suitable trousers and shoes – such as your school P.E. kit! We also recommend a Squirrel Scouts red t-shirt for the warmer months, but this is optional.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
